The 164-02706 is the standard brake disc for the Cleveland 40-98 wheel assembly, manufactured by Parker Hannifin’s Aircraft Wheel & Brake division. It is the friction surface the brake linings clamp against, and it is a wear item replaced during periodic brake maintenance.
Specifications: six 5/16″ mounting holes, minimum wear thickness 0.330″ (8.382 mm) per the Cleveland Technician’s Service Guide. The 40-98 wheel is certified under FAA-TSO-C26a for a 7.00-8 rim with 6.50-8, 6.50/7.00-8, or 19.5×6.75-8 tires. Under the earlier Cleveland numbering convention this disc was designated 164-27F.
Replacement criteria beyond minimum thickness: coning beyond 0.015″ in either direction, general grooving across the disc faces, or corrosion that cannot be cleaned up by wire brushing and sanding with 220 grit. Single or isolated grooves up to 0.030″ deep are not by themselves cause for replacement.
Typical applications — Beechcraft Bonanza 35 series (35, A35 through S35, 35R) and T-34 Mentor (45, A45/T-34A, D45/T-34B) via conversion kit 199-50; Travel Air 95, B95, B95A, D95A, E95; Baron 95-55 through E55, 58 (TH-1 and on), 56TC and A56TC; Britten-Norman BN-2A MK III Trilander on the 40-98F wheel.
Many of these Bonanza and Travel Air installations are Cleveland conversion kits rather than factory-original equipment. Confirm the wheel assembly part number on your aircraft before ordering — aircraft model alone does not establish eligibility. Refer to the aircraft manufacturer’s approved parts catalog.
Note: the 164-02707 is a separate part with the same minimum thickness but a different application (40-98A wheel). The two are not interchangeable.
